Cosmetic Dentistry

Did you know that when people meet, especially for the first time, one of the first areas they look at is the mouth; therefore your teeth and the lips that enclose them are important.
There are numerous options available for the people who wish to improve and impress.

The following are very brief descriptions of all the techniques available at Quadrant Dental Practice. All our dentists will only be too happy to explain and demonstrate further when you book your next cosmetic appointment.

Crowns

This is the restoration of choice for all root treated teeth and teeth that previously carried very large amalgam/composite fillings. They are also used on those teeth that lose up to half of the incisal edge of front teeth and when the cusps or corners of your back teeth are lost.
They can be made of all porcelain, porcelain bonded to a precious metal or all gold.
The new all porcelain or ceramic crowns as well as having superior aesthetics have been shown to be just as strong and last as long as the porcelain bonded to precious metal crowns. Some even carry 5 year warranties!
Like porcelain veneers they require 2 visits to the surgery with a temporary crown provided between visits.

"White" Fillings

These new high tech tooth coloured composite fillings can be used in both front and back teeth. Such are the properties that they possess that they can mimic the lost enamel or dentine, and restore the tooth to full function in one visit. When they cover an entire surface of a front tooth it is called a composite veneer and is often used to disguise discoloured, mishapen and misaligned teeth.
We often use our "air abrasion" system to prepare teeth for this material often negating the need for any anaesthetic.

Porcelain Veneer

These are thin sections of porcelain bonded directly onto the front surfaces of teeth. They are used to cover discoloured, misshapen and misaligned teeth and to closed gaps between teeth. Porcelain veneers require to be manufactured in a dental lab therefore requires 2 visits to the surgery. The first to prepare the tooth/teeth, (sometimes no preparation is needed) and then fit temporary veneers. At the second visit they are bonded onto the teeth using high tech resins which are very strong.
